About Oxford

Oxford is the world famous, 12th century university city, (one of the oldest Universities in the world) situated in the centre of England. It is also famous for the many beautiful medieval buildings including the University colleges with their libraries and private chapels, the art museums, churches and cathedral, and the earliest botanical garden in England. It is a small town built on the River Cherwell and Isis which are the names of the River Thames here.

There are 5 teaching hospitals very near to the property and also the new Brookes University is only a short walk away. Oxford has many excellent language schools, new business schools and the car industry started by Lord Nuffield (originally founded from Henry Ford's bicycle business and developed into the Morris car Works.

Oxford is steeped in history - the Civil War (Cromwell stayed here), the reformation (trials of Cramner, Latimer and Ridley took place here), the Queens Elizabeth 1 and Queen Mary both frequented the city during their different reigns, King Henry VIII commissioned the building of Christchurch Cathedral etc.
